Downtime
You may have noticed some downtime over the last... err, while. It's a long story. Part of which involves the server being held hostage, part of which involves an open trunk and heavy rain. But anyway, the site is back for those who wish to continue to use it. It should be reliable again for at least the next six months. Hopefully longer, but time will tell.

Update (06/28/10 06:19 PM): It seems there are a few teething problems in getting everything running again. Namely, the SMTP server isn't working properly at the moment, so you won't be able to receive any e-mails from the site.

Update (06/29/10 05:57 PM): I've gotten the SMTP server up (at least to a working state, if not yet completely set up). You should now be able to receive e-mails again.

More Updates
Okay, I've been making a few more changes around the site (in fact, more visible changes than in the previous three years, I think).

First of all, I've re-coded the shoutbox. The coding is a lot nicer, although the front-end looks much the same. The biggest change users will notice there is when editing messages. In addition, when navigating through older messages, it will update the url (or if you change the url, it will update the shoutbox).

Secondly, the experiments section has gained a couple new experiments recently. A vignere cipher script and a primality test.

Finally, I've been messing around with my news script, and as a result there have been a couple changes. The small one is the minor graphical change with avatars next to all the news posts (yes, they're currently all the same, but what the hell). Secondly, I've enabled commenting on the more recent news posts (a link can be found in the lower left of each news post). More as a proof-of-concept than anything else, but who knows? Maybe someone actually will. Don't have a way for users to upload their own avatars yet, so it'll use a default one for now. I'll add that shortly.

Still Alive
I should probably delete the last post, but I'll keep it here since it's the only one more recent than three years ago. For now, anyway.

So, for starters: I've rewritten the base code for Caiyern.net. I was planning to unveil a new layout, but the person never held up their end of the bargain (was doing a script trade, which I've now just implemented myself). So it remains this tired old layout. If anyone out there actually reads this and is willing to do a site design (either for a trade or if someone is grateful enough from one of the scripts here they use or are just bored), let me know.

Some of the more noticeable changes: HTTPS is the big one. Some pages (such as the login page, registration, messages, etc.) have to be viewed with an encrypted connection. Because of certain technical restrictions, all logins have to be done on www.caiyern.net, but if you're coming from RandomSig it should redirect you back over there once you're logged in. Smaller changes are a reduced page render time (roughly 33%), small Jquery implementations.

What this means: This site has always been (and probably will be) a place for me to experiment with various things. Most of them are hidden in unlinked areas. I'm going to try to start making more of these visible. Small things will appear in the Experiments sections, while larger things will get a mention here.

But that's all for now. See you in another three years.

Oh, for anyone who is interested (read: no one): I'll be making the source code of the site available again since it's no longer quite so embarassing (well, most of it. There is still some legacy code). Click here to go to the source.

Updates
Oh god, first update in over three years.

Changes are coming. I am in the middle of migrating the complete re-write of the site code, so some things may not be 100%.

You won't be able to log into /Experiments/ for the moment. The main site (such as it is) and RandomSig should be working.

Accounts Deleted
Despite my warning and the PMs I sent out, only a couple people responded telling me which account they wanted to keep.. Because of this, all multiple accounts have been deleted. I've also deleted all accounts that were not activated. If you can't log in, you'll have to register again. I'll be adding an option to resend the validation e-mail, too. From now on, accounts that are not activated after three days will be deleted automatically. I apologize for anyone inconvenienced by this. It's been over a month since I made a news post about multiple accounts.

RandomSig Beta Launched!
That's right. In celebration of my Random Sig script's 1,000,000th page load, the new version of the Random Sig script is finally out. With this version, you can have multiple random images with the same account. Just create a new directory and upload your images. As you may have noticed, my server has been having some difficulties recently with the MySQL server. The script has been completely reworked to guarantee that your signatures will be able to stay up even when I'm having problems, and will load even faster than before. I thank all of you who have stuck with me during these difficulties, and I will be giving everyone who has stayed with me 10 times the normal amount of storage.
And yet, That's still not all. In addition, I have also integrated the site with the forums. No need to login twice or register again. Just use the same username and password and have fun posting. I will get the registry page up again as soon as the necessary changes have been made.
I'm still always looking for new script ideas. If you have a good idea, just give me a message. You can also post in the forums in the appropriate section

A few updates
I've finally gotten around to doing a few new updates. First, I've fixed a couple errors in the Random Sig script. Hopefully no one will be having any other problems with it. I've also added a PM system. This should make it a lot easier for everyone to contact me with problems, suggestions, etc. You can also message each other, if you wish. On another note, you should all log in to check your messages. If you have registered multiple accounts on my site, you'll need to tell me which account(s) you want to keep. I'll be deleting the duplicate accounts within a week, so if you don't tell me, your account might be deleted.

Rants
Well, as there have been no updates recently, I've decided to take pity on all of you and let you share in my awesomeness. I have now added a new script to the site. Something wrong with the world? Someone been pissing you off recently? Go ahead. Rant about it. You know you want to. A permanent link can be found on my rants page.

New Site Engine
Well, I've recently recoded the engine for the Rants section. Although you probably won't notice anything different, there have been changes. It should load a little faster, and it's now far easier for me to update and add new entries, so check back occasionally for more of your favourite reading. Because of this, there could be some small errors. If you find anything, send a message to Webmaster@caiyern.net.

I hate people
I have just added a new section to my site. This is where I will be putting my so-called "rants," where I will talk/complain about whatever I feel like. If you are a moron or have no sense of humour, don't go there. If you disagree with anything I say in them, you're wrong. I don't care what you think. I'm not forcing you to read anything on my site, so if you decide to read and are offended by what I say, it's your own damn fault.
